Of seasons and climate

One of the eye-opener for Singaporeans who travel, are the four seasons and different climate overseas. In Singapore, its Summer (my Shanghai colleagues think its Spring) all year around, temperature ranging from 27 to 32 degrees. We get occasional showers/thunder storms. Weather doesn't varies much in a year.

In Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing and Taipei (where I travel for work), there are 4 seasons and climate changes can be drastic. I have seen, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter in Shanghai, a few (not all) seasons for the other places and, the same season in different places are not even the same (i.e. winter in Shanghai is different from winter in Beijing). They vary in duration (number of months), time of sunrise, time of sunset, humidity, temperature.

When my colleagues told me that a typhoon is approaching Taipei on this coming Friday, I was filled with excitement. I am pretty curious as to what I will be getting (wind? rain?) and to a certain extent, looking forward to it (being a Singaporean who has never been through a typhoon).

That was until a cabbie chatted with me and told me that, prices for vegetables are expected to rise for these few days, as the typhoon will destroy the crops.

I feel bad for wanting to experience it.
