AL's best friend had requested him to sing at his wedding. The best friend will start off the song, so AL and their other best friend are supposed to continue with it.
JJ thought it was a brilliant idea 'coz she had wanted to sing (我是幸福的 by Fish Leong) at her own wedding but eventually didn't, coz AL can't sing for nuts. She thought it might make him look bad. That was precisely the problem - AL can't sing for nuts! (AL has a couple of weeks to train/practise/improve under JJ's supervision.)
However, JJ and I were trying to encourage/persuade/sweet-talk AL into agreeing the request. We were not jumping at the opportunity to make AL look bad. We thought that it will be sweet to sing at best friends' wedding. Its the thoughts/courage/attempt that make the difference, not how well he sings. Its not as though the guests are expecting to be entertained by world-class/money-worthy performance. Its like your present/well-wishes to a friend, in full view of the guests.
Weddings are not even unions of two perfect beings so, who expects wedding celebrations to be perfect?
