I am testing out whether this line is true.
What happen when you are expected to appraise your work and, you honestly gave a failing grade 'coz you weren't too pleased with what you have done. Do you get appreciated for being honest (the person who asked, made judgment as well)? Or do you jeopardise your own future 'coz you penalised yourself.
In my humble opinion, being defensive is not an optimal course of action.
