a tiny green step

Ideally, I should wake up early to maximise my hours on a Sunday and go grocery shopping with my Mum. In reality, I reached home at 5am after a futile fishing trip.

Since its a beautiful Sunday, I was determined to go ahead with my grocery shopping (which is more therapeutic than shopping). Choosing between looking like an aunty (with a grocery cart) and acting like a yuppy, I settled for the former. Its silly since I don't usually make bulky purchases and wouldn't be filling up the cart.

I got a little confused in the supermarket 'coz it was resized and the layout rearranged. Its probably more than a year since I last indulged in decent grocery shopping.

When I told the boy (looks like a part-timer student) not to give me any plastic bag and I would pack my stuff in my cart, he gave me a surprised smile. He was sweet enough to help me load my cart.

After that, I went to get Munchy doughnuts for my family's teatime treats. Unfortunately, I didn't bring containers for them (they had to be packed in paper box) and when I looked into my cart, I realised there was a plastic bag for my soya milk (in tetra pack) twin pack, my vegetables were in resealable bags, my wafers were in foil bags, my mushrooms were in styrofoam plates with cling wrap, my cheese was in paper box... my heart sank. There was just too much packaging material!

I returned the plastic carrier to the Munchy doughnut staff and left my doughnuts precariously on top of my groceries. I walked so slow (in case doughnuts fly off) that I blocked a granny's way at the carpark. She smiled at me when she saw me holding on to the precious doughnuts while lifting my cart to cross the tiny drain.

I hope my tiny steps are helping.
